1. What We Collect
EngineO.ai ("EngineO") is a Shopify app. When you use EngineO, we collect:
- From Shopify, when someone opens EngineO: their name, email address (if Shopify shares it), language, Shopify staff ID, and whether they are the store owner or a collaborator.
- Details you add in EngineO: profile photo link, time zone, writing templates, the AI questions you track, and feedback you send.
- Your store's content, read through the Shopify API: products (titles, descriptions, SEO fields, images, product types and prices), collections, pages and blog posts.
- Your storefront homepage, which EngineO visits to check how it loads and whether search engines can read it.
- How EngineO is used: actions taken, AI usage counts and the history of changes published to your store.
- When someone signs in or makes a change in EngineO: their IP address and browser type.
- If you email us or join our early-access list: your email address and what you send us.
EngineO does not ask Shopify for access to your customers, orders or checkouts, so we do not collect your shoppers' personal information.
2. How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
- Provide the Service — scanning your store, generating AI-powered optimization suggestions, and publishing approved changes
- Improve the Service — understanding usage patterns to build better features
- Communicate with you — service emails, such as an alert when your store reaches its monthly AI usage limit and a summary of notifications you have not read, and replies when you contact support
- Manage your plan — paid plans are billed by Shopify on your Shopify invoice, and Shopify tells us which plan your store is on
3. AI Processing
EngineO uses AI models to generate optimization suggestions for your store's content. The content being improved (for example a product's title, description and SEO fields, or a page's text) and any instructions you type are sent to AI providers solely to generate these suggestions. If you use AI answer checks, only the questions you track are sent to an AI search provider to see whether its answers mention your store. AI suggestions reach your Shopify store only when someone on your team puts them there: publishing a change to your existing content is for the store owner, and a team member with the Owner or Editor role can save an AI-written blog post into Shopify as an unpublished draft. The one exception is AI answers: on the Pro plan, if the store owner turns on the setting that publishes AI answers to your store (Store Settings → AI Answers Automation), new answers are published as they are written.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your data to third parties. We share data only with:
- AI providers — to generate optimization suggestions and run AI answer checks (the content being improved, your instructions and your tracked questions, processed per their data processing terms)
- Shopify — to bill paid plans on your Shopify invoice
- Infrastructure providers — to host and operate the Service
We do not share your data for advertising or marketing purposes.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
While EngineO is installed on your store, we keep your store's data and the history of changes published to it so that we can provide the Service.
When you uninstall EngineO, access to EngineO and its paid features stops. Uninstalling does not necessarily end your Shopify subscription. Manage or cancel the subscription through Shopify. If you reinstall, EngineO confirms the current subscription with Shopify before restoring paid access.
Uninstalling also ends EngineO's access to your store straight away, stops its background work, and signs out everyone who opened EngineO from your Shopify admin. Your data is kept for the moment, so it is still there if you reinstall.
About 48 hours after you uninstall, Shopify asks us to delete the store's data. We then permanently delete what EngineO holds for that store — our copy of your products, collections, pages and blog posts, your Store Health scores, issues and reports, and your AI answers, automation settings, drafts and change history — and erase the personal details on the EngineO accounts of the people from your store who used it. This cannot be undone: installing EngineO again afterwards starts fresh.
EngineO has no button to delete your data. Uninstalling from your Shopify admin is what starts the deletion described above. Copies of deleted data can remain in our encrypted backups for a time, and we keep what we are required to keep by law.
6. Security
We use industry-standard security practices to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure API authentication, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure — please protect your account credentials. Sign-in for Shopify stores is handled by Shopify, so keeping your Shopify admin account secure also protects your EngineO access.
7. Your Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us at support@engineo.ai. To have your store's data deleted, uninstall EngineO from your Shopify admin (see section 5). EngineO does not offer a self-serve data export, and there is no way to close your account from inside the app.
8. Cookies and Analytics
EngineO sets one cookie, to keep you signed in. We do not load analytics or advertising trackers in your browser, and no cookie EngineO sets follows you to other sites. We measure how the Service is used on our own servers instead.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or through the Service.
